October 19, 2017, 7:00pm - October 19, 2017, 11:00pm
This campus-community event will unveil the findings of our county-wide research on the affordable housing crisis in Santa Cruz & Watsonville. We will share the results of over 1700 surveys and interviews with local residents and how they are experiencing the housing crisis. The event also features a visual and literary art exhibit on the meanings of “home.” Finally, the event kicks off Affordable Housing Week, with a wide-range of county organizations and community groups participating in an open discussion of responses to the crisis and sharing information about strategies, campaigns and upcoming events seeking a way forward.

Santa Cruz Permaculture Action Day w/ Beats Antique
November 4, 2017, 10:00am - November 4, 2017, 4:00pm
Join Beats Antique for a Permaculture Action Day at the Homeless Garden Project's farm the Saturday after the Beats Antique @ The Catalyst Halloween show in Santa Cruz.
We’ll gather at the Homeless Garden Project Farm on the corner of Shaffer Rd. & Delaware Ave. from 10am-2pm, Saturday, November 4th. Come enjoy a day of hands-on regenerative projects, music, shared food, workshops, and taking action as a community.
Projects will include preparing the farm for winter and seeding winter cover crops, identifying and removing noxious weeds, mulching and beautifying paths and garden beds, and painting educational signage for the farm.
This action day is also a musical experience! Hear the sounds of local band Dan Juan , and maybe even some funk from a special guest or two : )
Homeless Garden Project's “Products Made With Love” will be available for purchase, including beeswax candles, strawberry jam, and more than 40 products, all made by trainees in HGP's transitional employment program.
Bring your friends and come prepared to learn new skills, build food-producing systems, and have a dirty, good time. This event is free and all are welcome to attend! We’ll have a simple lunch spread and water/tea available for everyone throughout the day, but please bring a potluck dish or beverage to contribute if you like!
This event is a collaboration between the Permaculture Action Network, Homeless Garden Project and Beats Antique. Special thanks go out to Jill Angeline for the support to make this happen!
Please share this event page and invite your friends!
