I saw many groups rhythmically working together to drummers and other musicians during my two years of drumming in Africa. The farmers would work on each others' fields, then move on to another, etc. One village elder mentioned that the farmer whose field was being worked on was never one of the musicians because the temptation to play faster, and get his field done quickly, was too great! I've found myself singing to myself very often whenever I'm doing repetitive physical labor like digging in my garden, shoveling gravel, etc... the work just flows along to the Groove when we're not thinking about how hard or boring the work is! ...
